Inspecting a coin

Some coins can’t be graded

Sometimes SSGC receives coins that are ineligible for grading. In the case that an ineligible coin is received for grading, the following actions may be taken by SSGC:

Counterfeit Coins

Counterfeit coins detected by SSGC shall not be enclosed in a capsule. SSGC will not indicate a grade state of a “Counterfeit coin”. Counterfeit coins will be reported to RCNA and ANA.

In the event SSGC receives multiple counterfeit coins from a particular member, SSGC shall suspend the member until further notice. In addition, local law enforcement authorities shall be notified.

Counterfeit coins may be returned (discretion of local authorities) at the owner’s expense and a $5 CDN credit shall be applied for the capsule not used.

 

Altered Coins

Altered coins detected by SSGC will not be enclosed in a capsule. SSGC will not indicate a grade state of an “Altered coin”. Altered coins will be reported to RCNA and ANA.

In the event SSGC receives Multiple altered coins from a particular member, SSGC shall suspend the member until further notice. In addition, local law enforcement authorities shall be notified.

Whizzed or Processed Coins

Whizzed or Processed coins detected by SSGC may be enclosed in a capsule. The word “Whizzed” or “Processed” shall be indicated as the grade state of the coin.
